Less proved to be more on the spring/summer catwalks, with many shows featuring faces that were a picture of polished, nearly naked perfection. At Calvin Klein and Celine, the finish was unpowdered and slightly sheeny, with a delicate rosy flush, a look that was subtly matted down at ChloƩ. Shade-wise, pale can be distinctly interesting, while bronzy shades may be used to sculpt the cheeks sharply.

Prep your skin peachy. Use Garnier PureActive Exfo-Brusher Wash to loosen dead skin cells and maintain a super-smooth surface.

Before making up, cleanse skin scrupulously, then apply a foundation that seamlessly evens up skin tone, such as Maybelline Dream Creamy Foundation. Blend from the middle of the face outwards, so none strays into the hairline.
Donna Summer Photos
Alternatively, use an air light concealer such as Maybelline Dream Mousse Concealer to hide areas of high colour or shadows, tapping it on lightly and blending well.

For a sheeny finish, leave well alone. If you feel too shiny, dust your complexion with a subtle veil of Rimmel Silky Loose Face Powder.

Swirl Collection 2000 Blush on the apple of your cheeks. For a more sculptured look, sweep on a bolder stroke of colour from George Bronzing Compact under the cheekbones, working outwards and upwards and blending well. Team with caramel and taupe shades on eyes - apply the lightest hue on the eyelid and a darker shade in the socket line and under the lower lashes.

Who says summer lips have to stay au naturel? Lips were orange bright and vinyl glossy at Sonia Rykiel and Prada, cutely coral at Moschino and Missoni and in the pink at Marc by Marc Jacobs.
Donna Summer Photos
Don't over-line lips, especially with a crayon - it looks too hard-edged for laid-back spring/summer. Instead, use a lipbrush loaded with colour from the lipstick you're going to use, then fill in. Blot and reapply for extra staying power. Try a lipstick with a voluptuous texture, such as George Moisturising Lipstick or Maybelline Moisture Extreme Lipcolor.
Donna Summer Photos
Alternatively, use a neutral lipstick that's a shade or two deeper than your natural lip colour, then add a glaze such as Rimmel Stay Glossy Lipgloss or Collection 2000 Pure Gloss Sheer Lipgloss in a bright, zingy shade over the top. This gives lips 3-D depth and youthful juiciness.

When most of us think of geraniums, a picture of the tender prima donna geraniums that we can find in every nursery, home improvement garden section or grocery store in spring. While these bedding plants are lovely in their own right, if you have not yet explored the hardy geraniums, commonly called cranesbills, then you are missing out on a whole group of garden-worthy perennials that can add beauty and charm to your garden.
Donna Summer Photos
Let's ignore the tender geraniums --genus Pelargonium -- and look at only the hardy cranesbill perennials. These wonderfully various plant are excellent in a large variety of garden habitats, and are a good addition to containers. They come in a wide range of colors, heights and forms, so will suit almost any garden purpose. While some can be almost invasive spreaders, others will make good single plants in a border.
Donna Summer Photos
Most will tolerate full sun, but the geraniums do best in a partly shady spot. Blooms usually show in May, and can last through fall. If you find that the blooming is fading in hot summers and the foliage is looking scraggly, simply trim back the plant and water it well. This will start a new flush of blooms and foliage that will last the rest of the summer and through fall. Keep pruning off the dead flower heads as well so flowering is continuous.
Donna Summer Photos
Plant geraniums in soil that is moderately fertile and well drained. Too much fertilizer, especially nitrogen, will give you lots of greenery but fewer flowers. Fertilize them only once, in spring. Water well, and do not allow the soil to dry out between waterings. Having an automatic watering system can prevent this from happening. Mulching your plants in spring will also help retain moisture.
Donna Summer Photos
Geranium seeds can be sown outside in spring, or you can propagate plants by taking cuttings from your existing plants in spring. When the plants have grown to a large clump, you can divide them. This will re-invigorate the parent plant as well as giving you more of these versatile plants to give away, sell, or enjoy yourself.
Donna Summer Photos
All of these hardy geraniums will thrive in zones 5 - 9, and many will do well in even cooler climates. All have divided or lobed leaves that form a mat or mound of foliage. The cup or star shaped 5-petaled flowers appear early, and varieties will show blossom colors from white through pinks to lavender and blues.

Macrorhizum: This is a border type of geranium, with a densely growing mat of fragrant leaves. Magenta pink flowers show in early summer. It is heat tolerant, making it a good choice massed for large groundcover areas. Each plant grows to 12 inches in height and will cover a 24 inch diameter area. The foliage has a glowing orangey-red color in fall.

Sanguineum: As the name implies, this one is called the bloody cranesbill. It has a low spreading mat of fine leaves that turn a brilliant red in fall and very showy bright magenta flowers. Good as a groundcover or as an edging plant.

Clarkei: One of the taller cranesbill geraniums, this grows to a height of around 18 inches. It's deeply cut dark green foliage forms a low mound. The blooms are white, large and cup shaped with violet veins. This is an excellent white flower choice for a perennial border.

The economy is hitting us hard. (How many people reading this just said, "No kidding", or some other expletive?) I'll deal with you later. Right now, it's important to realize that the economy is hurting big business, as well as the little "Mom and Pop" stores. And, if mom and pop don't get paid, then the kids don't get their allowances and then they protest by refusing to do their chores and if the kids don't do their chores, we'll be stuck taking out the garbage ourselves. Something needs to be done. But, I digress.
Donna Summer Photos
The point I'm trying to make is that many businesses are trying to get you to do trade with them by offering specials, sales and discounts. How far will this go? A funeral home in the northeast, realizing the high cost of funerals, is offering discounts, in order to deal with their competitors. But, I'm thinking, enough is enough (Barbra Streisand and Donna Summer, 1979). How can you possibly cut back on a funeral? Well, here are ten ways to tell that you are at a "no-frills" funeral.

Home improvement, for many of us, may be little more than a former television show starring Tim Allen. We may never think about redecorating, never ponder painting with a new color, and never consider landscaping. We may simply think things are fine as they are and disregard any suggestion of change. But even if we think like this, there comes a time when home improvement isn't a bonus, it's a necessity. The following list is five ways to know when it is time to raise the roof on improving your house.

Your Shag Carpet Just Invited you to a Donna Summer's Concert: Yes, goodbyes are hard. No one likes to say goodbye to their yellow wallpaper, their wood paneling, or their shag carpet. Going separate ways can be difficult, but sometimes it is for the better. If your house looks like something from the 1970's - as if Marsha Brady will come bustling through the door at any moment - it just may be time for an upgrade. The goodbyes will hurt at first, but you will get over it.

You Want to Sell, but so Does Everyone else: In this day and age, many houses look the same, like sets of triplets and quintuplets in a cookie cutter neighborhood. For this reason, your house needs an edge when you want to sell. The way to get this edge is to give your house something the surrounding homes don't have: get hard wood floors, invest in new carpet, add on a sun room, put in granite counter tops. Not only will these things increase the value of your home, but they will also allow you to purchase a "My house can beat up your house" bumper sticker.

Your Windows Aren't Doing Their Jobs: It seems that windows, as long as they avoid random neighborhood baseballs, should last forever: unfortunately, they don't; yes, they are a pane. Windows can deteriorate over time and there is little that can be done about it. Some windows may become cloudy, and contain a permanent fog-like appearance. Other windows may become leaky, and let in cold air during the winter months. If any of your windows fall into these two categories, it may be time to get some new ones. This can be expensive, but it will pay off in the end by making your house look nicer, keeping it warmer, and increasing its value.

Your Trees and Bushes are Dead or they've Been Sleeping for a Very Long Time: Ah, landscaping. It's something no one really wants to do: some women might even get married just so they never have to mow another lawn. It can get bothersome, causing allergies to flare up and insects to crawl out of bushes and onto your arms, but landscaping is a key in keeping your house appealing. Dead trees and dead bushes make a yard look neglected, as if you are only a few days away from using it as a parking spot for your car. Instead of keeping a lawn full of dead shrubs, uproot them and give new trees and new bushes a chance to thrive

Your Doors Don't Lock and You Don't Know Karate: Locks aren't unbreakable: sometimes they simply stop working. This may happen to your front door, your garage door, or the sliding glass door that goes out to your backyard. Wherever this happens, it's time to invest in a new door, and do it immediately. A door that doesn't lock is about as effective as a clock that doesn't tell time: a door that doesn't lock can make your home vulnerable to robbery and your family vulnerable to danger. Replacing a door because it doesn't lock isn't merely a matter of home improvement, it's a matter of home preservation.

Learn faster by preparing your brain to take in the information it needs for the task. This involves providing factual information, preferably within a context, along with priming your emotions for the experience you face. This approach allows you to engage, explore and expand your perception, allowing you a better chance to handle the information inputs appropriately. After all, we are most often learning things in order to use that learning to DO something with it.
Donna Summer Photos
If we approached all life events and learning opportunities in such a way, we would be more satisfied that our subsequent behavior and learning outcomes would be appropriate and successful. I'll give an example of a recent 'event' and how this worked for me.
Donna Summer Photos
This summer I finally got to experience wild and woolly white water rafting on the Chilko River in B.C. Canada. Brian and Amy, our guides, set the serious tone required to make the event fun. Learning to survive Level 4 & 5 rapids requires preparation, or one could literally be 'dead in the water'. We needed to understand both the overall context of the situation as well as specific actions to take as required by certain circumstances that might arise. So before getting on the river we received some 'brain training' to set the stage for a positive experience.
Donna Summer Photos
Grounded in both a healthy, if fearful, respect for the powerful forces of nature, knowing what to do if tossed from the raft, along with anticipation of the thrill to come, we set off and had a rough and rousing time. Just beautiful, and all the better and safer for the excellent learning ahead of time and expert guidance and collaboration along the way. This was truly 'RAPID' learning!
